This project was a proof of concept intending to demonstrate
the ability to use Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server to automate certain
key aspects of the program and project management, with particular attention
to PMOs. While complex program management tools are available on the market,
those with robust feature sets are quite expensive and notoriously difficult
to use. A goal of the proof of concept was to develop a user-centered
interface framework and technology architecture to enable pieces of functionality
to be developed as needed and seamlessly integrated with the tool.
my role Before I joined the project, another information architect
conducted user interviews and created the high level site-map. It was
my responsibility to layout the screens. I worked closely with the engineers
on the project to ensure that the screens that were being designed were
feasible given the constraints of Sharepoint and the schedule that the
project needed to meet. I also presented the user experience research
results and design at several internal presentations used to inform others
within the company of the project and it's progress.
After the initial design was complete, I conducted a series of user tests
to evaluate the design and prepare recommendations for the next version.
